Realtime Art
(Harvey) in English
For my last semesters, I am giving a series of short lectures with examples from games I have made and connecting propositions of game engines. This is a topic I call Realtime Art as I believe game engines allow for types of expression not found in any other medium. By doing this deep dive into simulation, I hope to impart everything I’ve learned about game development, with a focus on Environmental Storytelling and Interactive Aesthetics. Students will also be challenged to utilize 3D and various game engines for their aesthetic qualities.

Überfordernde Realitäten / Overwhelming realities – lecture, research and project on right-wing extremism as a media practice (Zarges/Schaffer/Baumann)

>>> SignUp Project / Anmeldung Projekt (max.

Together we will research contemporary extremist and fascist media practices and discuss strategies and forms of discrimination and disinformation in order to counter these with other answers and automatisms, realities and orientations in our own productions. Starting point will be an online lecture by Simon Strick, who will tell us about his research on right-wing extremism and fascism. The lecture is open to everyone. Building on this, we will work with a group of students to develop projects.

18.04.24, 15 – 17.30 online, Simon gives a lecture, we collect research components from the lecture.
24.04.24, 15 – 17.30 Project start and distribution of research homework, TuP workroom 0235
03.05.24, 15 – 17.30, first online check-in: How are you doing with the research, are you already designing your own project?
08.05.24, 15 – 17.30, second online check-in: How are you doing with your own project?
15.05.24, 13 – 18.00, presentation and discussion of the projects with Simon, Tobias, Johanna and Joel

And if we still feel like continuing, we can talk about a form of presentation of the respective projects later in the semester.

For participation in the project, we sign a so-called 'Theorieschein' worth 1 SWS after your own research has been presented in the project.
